Seamen of the WORLD, WELCOME to FRANCE



Your ship is at the quayside at FOS, LAVERA or CARONTE.
These docks are part of Marseille Port Authority on the Mediterranean Sea.
The 3rd biggest port in Europe after Rotterdam and Antwerp.
The city of Marseille ( pop.: 800.000) is 45 kms from our Centre,
and Paris, the Capital City of France is 800 kms from Marseille.

The Port WEST of MARSEILLE is big, with small towns scattered on the outskirts.
This could explain why there are no Discos! There are small shops, supermarkets,etc...
as well as a Shopping centre... Very few people speak English.



Our SEAMEN'S CLUB is situated at the centre of the West Port area in
Port de Bouc town. Our Club was renovated and an extension was added in 1995.
So, we hope that you will find it pleasant and usefull!

This SEAMEN'S CLUB was founded by The Apostolatus Maris and The Missions to Seamen. That is to say the CLUB is at the same time "Stella Maris" and" Flying Angel".

Our Centre was inaugurated in 1989 by the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Aix en Provence and by HRH Princess ANN of England, President The Missions to Seamen. Our Centre is run by a TEAM of voluntary workers and two priests. Fathers Jacques and Philippe who live upstairs.

In French our Association is called: "LES AMIS DES MARINS", translation : "THE FRIENDS OF THE SEAMEN".

Our workers are usually on duty at this Club once a week. They are no paid. In this way they demonstrate their solidarity and friendship with the Seamen of the World. During the day they go about their daily chores, at home, at school, at university or at work in offices/factories,etc. This explains why we have different people on duty at the Centre each evening.



The SEAMEN'S CLUB has a mini-bus to take you to and from our centre, free of charge. This bus is small ( 8 passengers ) and the Port is very big! Some ships are docked as far as 35 kms from the Club. And, for this reason you will understand it is impossible for us to go to all ships every evening.

ATTENTION ! The SEAMEN'S CENTRE has no relationship with salesmen on board. Be very careful! They cannot make any arrangements or promises concerning our mini-bus.
